Are You Wearing the ‘Big Personality’ Mask in Your Business?

If you've watched the TV show Come Dine with Me then you will have seen a curious case of contestants having a mistaken identity. Often on the show when the contestants are introduced there are the classic ‘big personalities’ who ‘don’t take sh*t from no one’, ‘tell it like it is’ and with them ‘what you see is what you get’. What actually happens is, as the contest begins, these people aren't really the brash badasses they made out to be at the start, they are often nice people who are putting on a front. Perhaps it’s a defence mechanism, perhaps they worry that their personality isn’t strong enough to stand up against the rest of the group or maybe they are just kidding themselves. What’s for certain though is this ‘fake’ personality is not sustainable as just a few minutes in, the mask starts to slip every time.

This happens in business as well. With the world of business being as social as it is, everyone is on display 24 hours a day. Your thoughts, your photos, your friendships, your ideas are all up for grabs so it’s easy to portray the image of the ‘virtual you’ as how you want to be seen rather than who you actually are.
