Whether you’re new to search engine optimisation or a pro, you should never stop learning about the subject as SEO techniques are constantly evolving. There is a huge amount of free information on the web about SEO which covers everything from website copywriting to generating back links and using social media with SEO. Below are some of our favourite free resources.
1. SEOmoz
This leading SEO resource is free for a month before you have to pay a very reasonable monthly $99 (around £64 at the moment). The SEOmoz software is simple to use and allows you to instantly see what is and isn’t working in terms of SEO on your website with clear links to the pages posing a problem on the Crawl Diagnostics page. Other useful features include being able to input and monitor your keywords and also reviewing your website (and your competitors’) backlinks. If you don’t want to sign up for the software then this website has plenty of free blogs and videos which cover a huge range of SEO techniques.
2. Google’s Webmaster Guidelines
If you want to rank well in Google it makes sense to check out their guidelines for what makes a well optimised website. We talk about Google’s Webmaster Guidelines a lot on this blog and that’s because they are so clear and straightforward about the basic SEO needed on a website. The Google Webmaster’s YouTube channel is another great place to visit for videos answering common SEO questions.
3. Search Engine Land
Search Engine Land is a comprehensive website covering the latest industry news as well as informative ‘How To’ articles on everything from using Google Analytics effectively to advice on social media marketing. Although much of the content is completely free, you can gain full access to the entire site for just $199 (or around £129) a year.
4. SEO Chat
Search for the answers to your questions and interact with SEO experts via the SEO Chat forum. It may seem a bit daunting at first to jump straight in so have a look around and see what’s already been answered and what people are talking about. The categories are clearly labelled which makes it easy to dip in and out of the topics you’re interested in.
5. Site Visibility Blog
The Site Visibility blog includes the latest search engine news as well as techniques and advice provided through podcasts and screencasts. The blog also includes information on SEO vitals including website copywriting.
